Orange Peel Textures

    • Very subtle, small droplet pattern

    • Looks like a very light mist of tiny bumps

    • Easiest to paint and clean, most modern/minimal look

    • Sprayed with thinned joint compound using a small tip and lower pressure

    • The most common type seen in homes built from the 1990s–2010s

    • Noticeable rounded bumps resembling the skin of an orange

    • Good balance of hiding wall imperfections while still being fairly smooth

    • Usually sprayed with standard drywall hopper gun settings

    • Larger, more pronounced splatters

    • Thicker texture, almost starting to approach a light knockdown

    • Hides imperfections very well but collects more dust and is harder to clean

    • Technically a variation: orange peel is sprayed first, then partially "knocked down" (flattened) with a wide knife 10–30 minutes later

    • Results in a flatter, mottled look (popular in the Southwest US)

    • Often lumped in with orange peel discussions even though it’s a separate finish
